Queen Rearing Class

June 9, Saturday, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm.  Rain date: June 16.  Registration at 8:30am.

This is a one-day queen-rearing workshop designed to provide information and hands on instruction for rearing quality queens., Grafting, and non-grafting methods of queen rearing will be covered as well as the use of Cloake Boards and Starter Hives for raising queen cells. Additional topics include the biology of queen rearing, handling queen cells, establishing mating nuclei, selecting breeder queens and “breeds” of varroa and disease resistant queens.

Each participant will take home a grafting tool, cell bar, queen cups, class handouts, and a copy of “Queen Rearing Essentials” 2nd edition by Larry Connor. Participants should have a minimum of two years of beekeeping experience and should be conversant with queen rearing concepts and terms such as found in Dr. Connor’s book.

Instructors are Stu Jacobson and Fred Gerberding.
