FIG 1. A worker honey bee with asymmetric compound eyes (one eye small), most likely from a developmental disorder. This bee was newly discarded in front of a hive in the research apiary by the bee house. That apiary is carpeted, making discarded hive debris easier to see on the ground. This bee happened to be the first one that I put under the dissecting microscope for UV 365 nm photography, a surprising fortunate choice.
