Tina’s Queen Tequila
Hi Tina, I wrote you a season ago when I read your article on getting the mite numbers down early in preparation for winter, which is what I didn’t do soon enough and lost all five hives. (I caught/split last year and five of six overwintered last winter… I can be taught!)
Anyway, on your Demaree article where you mention putting old queens in vodka, do you ever taste it? You might start a whole new booze category to compete with mescal. You can call it Tina’s Tequila.
The weather is supposed to be good tomorrow, I’ll be doing a Demaree split then. Thanks for the article.

Tina Responds:
Daryl,
Thanks for the idea! It actually never occurred to me to taste it, and I even like vodka, so it might be pretty good. Not sure I’ll ever have enough to market, however. Glad you liked the article, and that you didn’t give up. Happy Beekeeping!
Correction
In our May issue, an “Editor’s note” on page 563 stated that the Los Angeles County Beekeepers Association was formed on August 18, 1883. The year was actually 1873, according to the group’s website. We apologize for the typo …
