Krispn Given (Apiculture Specialist Department of Entomology @Perdue University)
Krispn Given is the Apiculture Specialist in the Department of Entomology at Purdue University. He is recognized as one of the leading authorities in the field of instrumental insemination and honey bee breeding. Mr. Given started breeding bees 26 years ago conducting research with 150 colonies looking for solutions to improve honey bee health. Today he continues to run the honey bee breeding program at Purdue, teaching annual queen rearing short courses in addition to managing the honey bee laboratory and extension activities.
Krispn teaches the instrumental insemination class each year at the university attracting researchers and bee breeders worldwide, annually gives lectures to beekeeper’s and researchers at national and international conferences. As a honey bee breeder and researcher, Given is focused on selecting for hierarchical behavioral resistance to varroa destructor by selecting bees with desirable behavioral traits, grooming/mite-biting.
