Beekeeping 101 Returns to McHenry County College, Crystal Lake, Illinois

For more than two decades McHenry County College has been the home of beekeeper education.  The 2026 offerings begin on February 4 with Beekeeping 101, a class in the basics of keeping bees. This class is offered in-person or online and is followed in March by more short classes on special beekeeping related topics.

In this class, you will learn where to start as a keeper of bees. We’ll cover bee biology, modern beekeeping techniques, construction of hives, and how to acquire bees. Keep bees for the fun of it, as a sideline job, or to help your garden and orchard.

Beekeeping 101 meets four Wednesday evenings in February 6:30 – 9:00.

Here is an opportunity for the aspiring beekeeper to learn the basics before the bees arrive in the spring.
