The European Beekeeping Association was established on February 10 in Belgrade during the XV State Beekeeping Fair. Twenty-six European beekeeping associations joined the association, with 18 of them represented at the founding assembly. Additionally, two observers attended from Germany and Ukraine.
Biljana Tomić, the Technical Secretary of EBA, led the founding assembly. The second speaker was Boštjan Noč, the President of the Beekeeping Association of Slovenia and the initiator of EBA’s establishment. Noč spoke about the background of the idea and the problem of honey adulteration.
Other speeches at the event emphasized the importance of joint efforts against honey adulteration and the necessity of achieving the goals set by EBA. The headquarters of the European Beekeeping Association, which will be in Slovenia, was unanimously chosen by the delegates. During the founding assembly, they approved the EBA logo and flag, and finalized the statutes.
Delegates committed to nominating individuals who would wholeheartedly work toward the set goals. Until the final election of the leadership in the coming months, an interim leadership working group was established, including Boštjan Noč, Juozas Olekas, Plamen Ivanov, Biljana Tomic, and Rodoljub Živadinović.
