March 19, 2025 was California Ag Day. Representatives of the CA State Beekeepers Association (CSBA) visited 126 legislative offices in Sacramento to invite legislators to the annual event at the capital. Our plea was simple this year: California’s overtime laws are increasing the cost of our food and decreasing pay for our workers. Commercial beekeeping requires skilled workers, and it is not an industry that works a normal 8-hour day or 40-hour work week. Legislators were asked to consider this when visiting the various booths that exhibit the different foods that are produced in California; many of which rely on or benefit from managed honeybees. The CSBA will continue to educate our legislators on the drastic impact of CA overtime laws and fight for the livelihood of our workers and business owners.
