Celebrating its seventh year, the Philadelphia Honey Festival returns September 9th, 10th, and 11th at three historic sites. This year, the Philadelphia Beekeepers Guild (PBG) welcomes Glen Foerd on the Delaware as a new partner, joining returning venues- Bartram’s Garden, and Wyck Historic House, Garden, and Farm.
This year, all three historic locations offer visitors family friendly activities including: open hive demonstrations, honey extractions, a host of children’s activities, honey tastings, sales from local beekeepers, and a bee-bearding demonstration with Don Shump (PBG president and owner of The Philadelphia Bee Co.).
WHERE and WHEN:
Glen Foerd on the Delaware (Grant Ave. & Milnor St., Philadelphia 19114) kicks off the first official day of the festival on Friday, September 9th. The event runs from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Honey Happy Hour will feature Food demos/Appetizers by Jamie Hollander Catering and Events.
Wyck Historic House, Garden, and Farm (6026 Germantown Avenue) offers a full day of events on Saturday, September 10th from 10 am – 4 pm. Special features include a mead home-brewers sip & share meet-up and sampling with The Colony Meadery and Philly Homebrew Outlet. An informative presentation on “colony collapse” disorder is planned.
Bartram’s Garden (54th Street & Lindbergh Blvd.) hosts the final day of the festival on Sunday, September 11th from 10 am – 4 pm. Special features include the children’s Be-A-Bee costume parade, native plants sale, a marketplace with local crafts, beer and mead sampling with Philly Homebrew Outlet, and cooking demonstrations with the Cooking with Honey Contest winners.
