Johnston Eylar\nPO Box 490\nElizabeth\, CO 80107\n\nMorning\nThe theme fo
r this year’s Summer Meeting will be Honoring Our Heritage &amp\; Furth
ering Sustainable Beekeeping in Colorado. The morning session which will b
e from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon will focus mainly on heritage and sustainab
le beekeeping practices. A significant aspect of CPBA’s mission is to he
lp further communication and understanding between Colorado’s beekeepers
and the larger agricultural community.\n\nSpeakers from the Colorado Depa
rtment of Agriculture\, Colorado State University and members of the Bould
er County Parks &amp\; Open Space Department will be on hand to chat and
answer questions. CPBA President Lyle Johnston will give an update on cond
itions affecting almonds and commercial beekeeping.\nNoon\nAt noon we will
break for lunch which will be catered by nearby KT’s BBQ with all the
fixing’s – and is included in the price of admission (alcoholic bever
ages not allowed at this venue). This will also be a Zero Waste event (mea
ning that we have to clean-up and recycle any trash generated beyond the l
unch service. Clean-up volunteers welcomed).\n\nAn auction will be held sh
ortly after lunch to help raise funds for the CPBA treasury (The CPBA oper
ates on donations and proceeds from meetings like this\, rather than dues
BTW).\n\nAfter lunch\, attendees will have the opportunity to tour the adj
acent Rock Creek Heritage Farm and visit with its current operator Scott M
iller. Scott is the 5th generation of Millers farming at Rock Creek and is
also a beekeeper. He has a dozen or so hives on the farm and also leases
bees from Lyle’s brother for pumpkin pollination.\nAfternoon\nThe balanc
e of the afternoon (until around 5:00 p.m.) will be open to attendees visi
ting with our speakers informally and among ourselves. Older\, more experi
enced beekeepers are encouraged to visit and share with our newer beekeepi
ng members.  A practical demonstration of applying Mite Away Quick Strips
may be done on the screened porch of the Farmhouse. Fishing is also avai
lable at nearby Stearns Lake\, a 10 minute drive from the Farmhouse (fishi
ng license required).\n\nThis meeting promises to be a great opportunity f
or renewing old beekeeping ties and friendships – and to share with othe
r beekeepers. This will also be an  opportunity for developing good worki
ng relationships with the farmers\, growers and regulators that we as beek
eepers are so interdependent on in maintaining sustainable practices.  We
look forward to this meeting providing updates on successful beekeeping p
ractices within an atmosphere of comradery and friendship. Feel free to br
ing old beekeeping pictures and memorabilia to share with others.2005 Sout
