Kelly Hall shot this photo of 14-16 day old queen cells that her husband, Jeff, grafted. They use these queens for their own apiaries and sell a few to local beekeepers. Doing their own queen rearing helps support their goal of maintaining a sustainable apiary; they jokingly refer to their queens as “local mutts.” This photo was shot in early June 2020 on the Kitsap Peninsula in western Washington state.
